It is great for removing stains from walls prior to repainting after smoke damage. Removes mildew and mildew stains when mixed with bleach. Also recommended for washing away paint remover sludge. Trisodium Phosphate can remove dirt, grease, soap scum and many more surface contaminates and is probably the most powerful cleaner to use on walls and trim.
Typical surfaces include painted walls, ceilings, wood trim and windows. Trisodium phosphate, also known as TSP, will strip away many years worth of grime leaving a clean and etched surface to maximize the paints adhesion. Apply with a sponge and use a scrub pad for heavy deposits. Squeeze excess solution from the sponge and wash from the bottom up. Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the surface for minutes then rinse with warm water.
Repeated rinsing might be necessary to remove all the contamination and cleaner. Pay attention to the mixing instructions on the box. Not all products are the same. Strengths can vary between the different manufactures.
The best part is no rinsing is required when used according to directions. TSP Warnings and Precautions Trisodium phosphate is a very strong cleaner and can cause burns when mixed according to directions.
Wear rubber gloves, protective clothing and eye protection. Do not allow the trisodium phosphate solution to touch the skin or make contact with your eyes.
Please Note: Strong trisodium phosphate solutions can discolour metals and degloss paint. Do not use on linoleum or similar surfaces. Trisodium phosphate, commonly known as TSP, may be just the ticket to banish major messes, but this potent, inexpensive cleaning product does have its drawbacks. Once diluted, TSP is a highly effective cleanser, degreaser, and stain remover. TSP should be stored in a secure, dry place humid conditions can cause clumping.
A toxic substance, TSP can be harmful if swallowed, and exposure to it in granular or diluted form can cause serious eye injury and skin irritation.
