I'm no dumb ass. I just need a quick answer to my question, "Why do snow and ice melt slowly in the spring even when the temperature is well above freezing? First, they are white. As a consequence they absorb less of the sunlight. Second, snow and not ice has a lot of small air pockets.

This keeps the heat conductivity very low. Snow at above freezing temperatures.
